Cathedral Garden

The great cathedrals of France were the inspiration for this garden, in particular Amiens Cathedral which is north of Paris. Imagine passing through the front portal and seeing the towering cathedral pillars lining the nave mimicked here by 6 graceful treeform wisterias and 16 evergreens acting as pillars to form the outer side aisles.
As you reach the transept, or the cross arm of the ‘Cathedral Garden’, your attention is focused on the central feature representing the altar. The altar is enclosed by the chancel, in this case, hedges in which are set beautiful iron window frames to remind us of the wonderful stained glass windows seen in French cathedrals.
It is our hope that, like Amiens and the other wonderful cathedrals of France, visitors to this garden leave feeling renewed. Contemplation and meditation seem to occur naturally here and one rejoices in the beauty and serenity of nature. |
